CHILD SAFETY STATEMENT
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Carers,
Monday, June 5th was World Environment Day and today (Thursday) is World Oceans Day. Our House Groups visited South Beach this afternoon to clean up any rubbish and explore the beauty of the beach environment right on our door step.
On Friday 16th June, Semester 1 Reports will be released via the Parent Access Module (PAM). These reports provide families with information about children’s academic and social progress and work habits. The reports will be complimented by the Essential Assessment Literacy and Numeracy progress report accessed via the QR Code sent home this week. Please find the time to go through the report with your child to focus on the positives and discuss what they are working towards.
Our Learning Showcase is on June 14th from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to come into the classrooms to see the child's work and hear them talk to you about their successes and learning goals.
Following the reports going home, we will be conducting the mid-year Parent/Teacher Conversations on June 20 & 21. These conversations are designed for two way communication between parents and teachers to further discuss children’s progress. Parents who have recently had a PSG meeting for their child do not need to book a Parent/Teacher interview.
Don't forget that this Friday (tomorrow) is a closure day. The staff will be focusing on extending their knowledge of assessing writing and data management.
I hope families have a great 4 day weekend!

WEEKLY NEWS 34MM
In 3/4 Wellbeing this term we have been looking at Problem Solving.
We have been working on rating everyday problems we may come across in our lives. We have then been using this information to determine if we need help from someone else to solve our problem, and who we could seek help from. Some of the trusted people in our lives that we could seek help from were our parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and our teachers. We have begun drafting stories about an imaginary problem and have worked together to come up with a solution.
SPORTS NEWS
FOOTBALL
The St Pat’s boys’ Year 5/6 football team, won the Moyne School’s Football tournament. As a result they will now compete in the Warrnambool and District Primary School Football Championships next Friday at Walter Oval in Warrnambool.
It was a superb day and an amazing effort by the boys as they remained undefeated all day. Schools that they defeated were Koroit and District Primary School, Port Fairy Consolidated Primary School, St. Patrick’s Koroit Primary School, Hawkesdale Primary School, Grasmere Primary School, and Woolsthorpe Primary School.
The day came down to the last game between the undefeated Port Fairy Consolidated and ourselves. When it was all said and done the St. Pats's boys came out victorious 28 points to 24.
Our Girls Football team will play in Warrnambool this Thursday. Good Luck Girls!
NETBALL
On Thursday 1st June year 5/6 travelled to Victoria Park Koroit to play in the Moyne Winter sports. We had three netball teams entered in this competition. We had an A pool mixed team, an A pool girls team and a B pool girls team. These teams have been very passionate about their netball and have trained nearly every day leading up to the competition.
All three teams experienced great success in winning nearly all their games. They played in the true spirit of the game, congratulating their competitors whether they won or lost.
The mixed team were undefeated and now will go through to the next round, Friday 9th June at the Mac Oval.

SUSTAINABILITY NEWS
World Environment Day - June 5th
The theme for World Environment Day on 5 June 2023 focussed on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution.
The world is being inundated by plastic. More than 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year, half of which is designed to be used only once. Of that, less than 10 per cent is recycled. An estimated 19-23 million tonnes end up in lakes, rivers and seas. Today, plastic clogs our landfills, leaches into the ocean and is combusted into toxic smoke, making it one of the gravest threats to the planet.
Not only that, what is less known is that microplastics find their way into the food we eat, the water we drink and even the air we breathe. Many plastic products contain hazardous additives, which may pose a threat to our health.
The good news is that we have science and solutions to tackle the problem –and a lot is already happening. What is needed most now is a surge of public and political pressure to scale up and speed actions from governments, companies and other stakeholders to solve this crisis. This underscores the importance of World Environment Day mobilizing action from every corner of the world.

SYLVIE SUNSHINE DAY
SYLVIE SUNSHINE DAY - THURSDAY JUNE 22
For our Term 2 School Wellbeing Day, St Pat's is hosting a Sylvie Sunshine Day, on the last day of term.
Sylvie Sunshine Day is held in memory of Sylvie Watty, big sister of St Patrick's students Frank and Vera Watty. This year, the day will aim to support local Warrnambool charity 'We've Got You'. Students will be asked to bring a gold coin donation on the day.
The students will be participating in a lapathon and staff members will be joining together in the lead up to the day to run a marathon... (distance covered as a team!)
Getting out and moving our bodies is a great way to look after our wellbeing and even in the midst of winter this remains super important.
In the classrooms, the day will also focus on how we can be someone's 'sunshine' by bringing some positivity and smiles to others faces, even when the weather might not be as bright!
Students are encouraged to dress in yellow, sunshine theme, on the day and prizes will be awarded for the best dressed.
Assembly will be held in the afternoon and parents are welcome to join us!
