CHILD SAFETY STATEMENT
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Carers,
Well done to the teams who participated in the Moyne Winter Sports on Tuesday. It's always a pleasure to take such well behaved children to events such as this. Our football team was victorious and our netball teams both won all of their games bar one. A great result from everyone who played. Thank you to the staff who supported the teams and umpired. We now look forward to our girls football competition in week 8.
National Reconciliation Week begins next Monday. Please remember that students are being asked to wear specific colours next Monday, which are listed in the article below.
Janine will be on Long Service Leave from Tuesday May 28 until Tuesday June 4. We will do our best to provide the same efficient and attentive service, however, please be patient with the staff replacing her.

CONFIRMATION CONGRATULATIONS!
Confirmation Candidates
BAPTISM
We have had several parents make enquiries about having their children (of various ages) Baptised. It seems that during the COVID years this was not something that was readily accessible. Fr Bill Lowry has suggested that we could do a St Patrick's specific Baptism program for parents here at school and a group Baptism at a Sunday mass in Port Fairy rather than parents travelling to Warrnambool for a meeting and organising separate Baptismal ceremonies.
If parents are interested in this offer, please email the principal before Friday May 31st on principal@spportfairy.catholic.edu.au
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Simone Riddle and Adam Brian on the birth of their son Tex. Tex is a brother to Matilda, Rosie, Percy, Trixie & Billy.
SCHOOL PODCAST
Our Student Leadership Team have been busy creating a School Podcast. They have released the very first episode on Spotify today and are looking forward to releasing new episodes every fortnight. Their skills will continue to develop and we are excited to see what they can do in this space. Follow the link below to have a listen!
SOCIAL INNOVATORS - YEAR 6
Moyne Ideas2Life Lab
On Wednesday 8th May, CIC hosted our very first Ideas2Life Lab with the Moyne community. The Year 6 students from Port Fairy Consolidated and St Patrick’s Primary came together in an action-packed workshop with 6 community partners from the Moyne Community.
We were extremely lucky to have Bec and Natasha from the Moyne Shire Council, Naomi and Jane from Wannon Water, Jenny from Glenelg Hopkins River CMA and Deon Cameron offer their expertise and support to the Year 6’s for bringing an idea to life.
The teams participated in a high energy challenge, with the goal to protect an egg from cracking when dropped from arm’s height onto concrete…
Whilst this task was very different from the ideas the teams will be bringing to life, the process involved some very transferrable lessons.
By creating an annotated sketch of their idea, identifying the specific resources that could be used and mapping how to acquire resources, the teams were equipped with valuable skills around project planning.
From here, the teams designed an eye-catching Instagram carousel to promote their model, practiced approaching community partners with their idea proposal, and negotiated deals that were beneficial for both parties.
The super speedy prototype was built using balloons, cotton wool, manilla folders, garden stakes, masking tape and other assorted materials which saw the teams’ time management and communication skills put to the test.
A quick debrief between the community partners and teams heard reflections around the most effective strategies to get partners excited about an idea, how to communicate professionally, and the importance in planning before jumping into action.
This provided an easy transition for the teams to focus on their smart start experiments, transferring the skills and knowledge from the egg challenge to their idea for the Port Fairy community. The community partners could provide valuable expertise to support the teams in their planning and resource preparation phases, and connections beyond the school gate to help support these ideas.
All teams left equipped with new skills and capabilities for bringing an idea to life, as well as connections to reach out to over the coming weeks as the young people of Port Fairy work to improve the lives of their fellow citizens!

SCHOOL STUDENT BROADBAND INITIATIVE
The Australian Governments School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) is available to families up to December 2025. This means for eligible families who sign up now, there is still over 18 months of free internet.
The Australian Government initiative was designed to boost education opportunities and narrow the digital divide, with the Australian Government providing up to 30,000 eligible families with school age children with no internet at home access to free NBN under the SSBI.
Access to the SSBI has become easier, with applications made through the National Referral Centre that parents/carers with school students can contact directly to check their eligibility.
Victorian families with students enrolled in Prep to Year 12, who do not have an active NBN connection (or had one in the previous 14 days) but can access a standard NBN service at their premises can become eligible with an application to the National Referral Centre.
You can find more information about the NRC on Anglicare Victoria’s website available here: Student Internet Program - Anglicare Victoria or contact Jordan Smith at the DOBCEL Office at jsmith@dobcel.catholic.edu.au

SCHOOL TV - RESPECTFUL LANGUAGE
“If you swear at someone, or about someone, you are actually committing an act of verbal violence. You transgress the usual rules of social interaction, impinging upon someone's self-image and their sense of dignity."
Dr Michael Carr-Gregg
IT'S TIME TO ENROL FOR 2025
Existing families with a child starting Foundation in 2025 are asked to complete the electronic enrolment enquiry document found under the Enrolment Information tab on our school website before June 19.
AUSTRALIAN EARLY DEVELOPMENT CENSUS
During the month of May all schools are required to complete the Australian Early Development Census for children in their first year of full-time schooling. This census assists in building a complete picture of early childhood development in Australia, so that the government can better understand and respond to the needs of children and their families. If any parents/carers do not consent to the collection of their child's information please contact the school.
